“When I joined Guiding I decided I’d only stay for 10 years as it was seen a ‘youth’ organisation, but then I realised after 10 years that all my best friends were Guiders and I’ve now been involved in Guiding for 50 years.
It has given me the opportunity to do so many things that I’d never have tried otherwise. But the greatest satisfaction is to see the youngsters achieve more than their expectations – they talk about how Guiding helped them cope with an interview, get to University, achieve getting a job, develop a skill/interest. And I’m sure all leaders would say exactly the same.
Guiding gave me a part time job, which I loved, and was so varied and met so many people that when I ‘retired’ I was kindly asked to be President – so I’ve not lost touch with all my Guiding friends. It is the best organisation in the world for girls and leaders!!”
“Having been a treasurer for other organisations for many years, when asked, I took up the challenge of County Treasurer in 2019. Learning guiding procedures and meeting lots of new people has been a real bonus especially since I have joined the County Commissioner at different events. I have been involved in Guiding as ‘Mr Brown Owl’ for many years and have enjoyed lots of adventures, including this year – being introduced to the joys of Poacher!”
